Default 01 4.2Q 6-speed transmission swap, tuning and performance

I've googled and haven't found anything, and my knowledge of ETKA is limited, so I'm not sure if I've been self-misinformed.

I bought a transmission swap kit that should be here this week, so I've got that squared away. Still have not figured out how I will resolve electrical issues like the ECU looking for the TCU. Any thoughts there would be helpful.

The guy with the transmission swap is also sending me all the turbo stuff for the same vehicle (2.7T 6-speed), so I've got lots of turbo stuff. Without taking the whole car apart, I'd like to figure out what, if any, of that stuff will be useful. He's sending me everything from the airbox to the turbochargers to the throttle body.

Finally, I bought an RS6 intake manifold. Don't ask me what I was thinking. Is there any record of such a manifold being swapped onto an A6 4.2? Was the effort successful?

Part numbers in ETKA look very similar, except for the prefix digits (chassis and motor) and the suffix digits (not sure what they mean). For example:
RS6 A6 4.2
Intake Gasket 077129717R 077129717Q
Throttle Body 077133062C 077133062A

Does the difference in the last digit in both cases mean that the two engines don't use the same intake manifold gaskets or throttle bodies, or is it a minor variant based on its positioning or something? Any help would be appreciated. I'd like to be as well researched as possible by the time I start taking this car apart in order to minimize double work. Thanks!

Default How is the swap going?

I have a 2001 4.2Q and like the idea of swapping the 5 speed auto for a 6 speed. This is partially motivated by my problems with my Transmission Control Module; I got water on the passenger side 1.5 years ago, and the insurance company is replacing the TCM for the second time.

I am going to research the swap and would appreciate any help.

I posted looking for help, but sure, if i ever get it done, I'll share. Check out Derracuda's post on motorgeek.com - he did the swap successfully already.

I almost did, but I googled his name first and decided against going that route based on what I saw. I bought everything from Bryan Little. He has an eBay account called audis4parts. Very good guy, very reasonable pricing, and I highly recommend him.

How much did it run if you don't mind telling me? The guy in GA is pretty close to me and he's got the whole swap kit (everything) for under 2G

Just make sure you get what you're expecting. I will not disparage a business on a public forum, but I will suggest that you do your own research. Bryan can get you the same swap shipped for cheaper than you could pick it up from David for, and I would not question the quality of what Bryan sells - he has 100% positive feedback on his eBay account, and having dealt with him, I can understand why. Just do your research, is all I'm going to say.

Also, russthemadtownmonkey, I may have a good tcu for you in the near future, provided i can eliminate it from the car without causing major issues. Let me know if you'd e interested - let the insurance company cut you a check, then you buy the part and pocket the rest of the money, call it labor expense.
