01 A6 2.7t MT clunk while braking
So I just picked up the car from the shop after having them put in the new motor and put everything else back together.
Noticing a clunk while braking. Not pulsing like a warped rotor, but a clunk. This mean something is loose? Or is it a bad suspension piece somewhere?
Keep in mind, this car hasnt run since mid july, I bought it with a broken timing belt, and it just finished having a new motor + clutch and a bunch of other stuff put on it. So alot of things have been taken apart and put back together.
Thoughts?

did they forget to tighten one of the mounts ?
i guess you have never driven it so don't know if it was there before ...
i can't imagine what you have into this car now

it would have been much less if I had had a chance to prep the new motor myself instead of the shop having to do it. Last time I let the gf dictate how I am fixing a car.... lol
total shop bill was 5600 most of that labor. I spent about 500 on parts myself and 1900 on the motor, 1800 for the car originally. so yeah.. alot.
and its more painful because i know I could have done all of the work myself.
But on the flip side, I have a car with a low milage motor and turbos (under 80k) new clutch (rs4) rebuilt starter and alternator, aux water pump and anything else that normally fails. Oh and motor came with new timing belt + seals.
So I over extended on the budget, but I am very happy with the car.

Check wheels for loose lug bolts?
Perhaps the axles weren't tightened either...the big jesus bolt in the center of the wheel or the six triple square bolts holding the axle to the output flange?
Not so much the brake mounting hardware if they didn't touch the brakes, but you never know.

No not noticeably.
It sounds/feels like a wheel bearing, but only when braking, so it cant be that, can it?
I am relying on you guys here because this is my first C5 and I know the front suspension is radically different from the C4 which was my last car.

not on accel, right? ( thinking CVs)
Have you looked at the brakes for something attached to a rotor that could catch a pice of a pad? Like a rock?
If something were loose it could cause a CV to catch
