Does anyone know if a tranny out of a 01 S4 or A6 2.7t will work in an 01 allroad ??
The reverse is slipping in the allroad.
Thanks

AFAIK the gearing is diffeerent (more tightly spaced in the AR) and the final drive is 4:38 vs. 4:11 in the A6 (the AR wheels are of a larger DIA).
For example the 4th in my wife's AR is approx where the 3rd is in my own S6. The trannies are very similar dimensionally (01E in mine).

check out the link from ZF's website - the 01 allroad uses the 5HP19FLA tranny, same as the A6 w/ 2.7t, 2.8, and 3.0 V-6s and the A4 w/ 2.8 and 3.0 V-6 (all are quattro). The A6 4.2 uses the 5HP24A (which is also shared with the S4 2.7t and the A8 w/4.2).

http://www.zf-group.com/pdf/AppChartpasscartrans.pdf</a

The final drive, valve body, and torque converter are different, as is control units. Simply swapping in another 5HP19 from a passat or A6 will probably yield result you don't want. If your having trans problems, best to get a used on with the same code, or have yours repaired.

to convey emotion via typing. Thanks for correcting this, and I am no expert, just reading from the literature. Someone had mentioned the 01E trans and that's a manual so I was also a bit confused but figured that he would/should ask a ZF Distributor/Rebuilder if he was at all serious...
