i have a 2001 audi A6 2.7t with an 01E 6 speed manual transmission. I was wondering if it is normal for it to grind when i am going 40-50 mph and i push in the clutch and try to put it into 2nd gear. I just changed the fluid and it still happens.

If you do not partially release the clutch to sychronize the primary shaft speed with the engine, I would say it should not 'grind', but it is putting a fair deal of extra work on the synchro hub.
I would naturally never do that as it would seem a strange thing to do as you will have very little benefit over being in 3rd at that speed, but if I did I would always momentarily lift the pedal as part of the process of changing of gear.
