Hi guys -
I have 110K on my '02, but thankfully I'm rounding 3rd base with the post-100K landslide of repairs. I had the timing belt, water pump, thermostat, aux water pump, value cover gaskets, and cam tensioner gaskets all done within the last year.
The t-belt was done about a year or two ago, and the guy said the cam seals were fine then. Well, a year or two later and after all the other top-end gaskets have been replaced, I'm getting some drips. It's not the end of the world, but I really hate such a nice car leaking oil.
So... Has anyone done their cam seals lately? I've watched a few videos, but they're all doing the t-belt and cam seals at the same time. I know, hind-sight is always 20/20 :-\ Looking at the Bentley manual, it basically says to go through the entire process of replacing the t-belt to get to the cam seals which is a pretty big project.
So just to confirm, the two main cam seals are on the camshaft drive which is basically like doing the t-belt -again-, plus the work of pulling the sprockets, screwing with the tensioners, extracting the seals, etc.
Then I read there are two other seals for the "hall sensors", which looks like an entirely different project than the seals on the camshaft drive.
-overwhelmed-
So, normally I would dive in and just go for it, but this looks like an ENORMOUS project. Has anyone else done this recently? Is it pretty common for these seals to start going out around a 100K?
Thanks,
- Jeff
