03 A6 2.7t Loss of Acceleration, Car shaking
#21
Not sure if the same parts are used on the 2003, but those symptoms were the result of a bad power output stage on my 2000 2.7T. If codes show misfires on one bank only, it's a likely culprit and easy to check. Just swap POSs and recheck codes.

Got a code P0305
Possible causes:
- Faulty spark plug 5
- Faulty ignition coil 5
- Ignition coil 5 harness is open or shorted
- Ignition coil 5 poor electrical connection
- Clogged or faulty fuel injector 5
- Injector 5 harness is open or shorted
- Injector 5 poor electrical connection
- Improper spark plug 5
- Insufficient cylinder 5 compression
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Intake air leak
Just have to find "Injector 5" and do some poking around.
I'll start with the Spark plugs. Then check on the coils while Im
in there. Hopefully I can get them swapped out for free if covered
under the recall.
The Fuel Pressure I guess could be a problem with the Fuel Filter?
Other suggestions from the pros?
The timing belt and water pump were already done when I bought the car.

To All those who Guessed faulty Coil. Your the Winners!
Swapped out the #5 with the #2 cleared the codes and then started her up again. Took a bit but got a P0302 (instead of P0305) Code to pop up. Engine light still on.
Took me a minute ( ashamed to say ) to come up with the brilliant coil swapping idea. Had no idea which one was # 5 and found the answer after some googling. In my defense I skipped lunch today while running around trying to find a code reader.
To any one who doesnt know If your at the front of the car starring down at the engine. On your left front it starts 1 to 3 then on the right front 4 to 6.
REAR
3 6
2 5
1 4
FRONT
I'll post back to see if the 2.7t's are covered by the recall. Otherwise I'll get some coils from ECS ( unless someone has a better source or aftermarket suggestion)
Thank you for all your help. Would not have guessed it was so simple. The way the car was shaking and bucking thought it had to be something Really bad.

Yes - buy 1 or 2 extra. Keep them in the house or in the trunk. I don't know that they really seem to "follow" each other, but they tend to randomly fail and having 1-2 extra on hand can really keep you from having down time over something simple.
As far as the shaking, I had my gf call me once almost crying because she thought her car was ruined. I told her it was a small issue and to drive the 3-4 miles home with the car bucking. She wouldn't believe me. It turned out to be 2 coil packs.
Glad it turned out to be a quick fix (other than waiting for the part).

I don't think Audi is providing info online about this like they did, I did get a form letter in 11/05/2009 UVESA #28F2/J1 about the coil pack recall and the handy mail-in claim form that I filled out for my refund, ironically this happened in October 2010 and they were covered then.
