additional info like miles of the car would help.

look for oil leaks on the valve cover.

drive the car around for a while and make sure the transmission shifts smoothly. no slipping ect..

listen to the cars turbos when your driving, there shouldnt be any dentist drill sound.

and if its got 100k def. check the service records timing belt, tranny fluid change ect...

if i were you and the car checks out to be ok once you drive it, take it to a shop and have a mechanic look at it. it will cost a little bit, but can save thousands of unexpected surprises in the future & $$$

also take it to a autozone and tell them you have a check engine light that goes on and off and they will scan it for codes for free.

good luck the 2.7 is a great vehicle

incomplete advice: normal operation turbos will whistle and most people mistake this for the dentist drill noise. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVUWV...eature=related

this is what the turbos will sound like when bad, basically at any RPM under load they will make this noise. on a normal car when you mash the pedal you will get a whistle as the turbos spool up, totally normal.

trust me you WILL know if it is making the dentist drill sound as it is NOT faint and it is NOT mistakable

ok thanks for all the advice, its an 04 it has 145k miles he said the timing belt has been changed and the trans fluid has been flushed, he sent me pics interior is super clean and so is the outside, i wont know until we meet up and i see it in person. I have a 2008 civic si with 40k miles was asking $13,000 for it and the audi is only worth maybe 8k, i know im taking a loss but im to the point where i hate driving the civic because its a really ****ty quality car. everything rattles around, the shifts arent smooth, its a 6speed so your constantly having to change gears plus its lowered on coilovers so its ride is kinda harsh. ill let yall know what i think if the car i look at but hopefully some one will buy my car and i can get an a6 with less then 100k miles for $14,000. I really want a black 04 a6 with the black w/amaretto combo interior

I'd find out more details about this. Flushing is bad.

You should be able to find an 02 or 03 S6 with <100K miles for $14K.
