Even hartmann doesnt carry one in any size.
I was under the impression that the C5 S6 came with 17X8 and was hoping that it 17X8 would be wide enough to give my Narrow body C5 some "*****"

I've been looking for 17x8 or 17x8.5 for awhile...every time I find one they're either really pricey or they're ugly...or low quality. it's weird, but the OEM 17" rims on 4.2's and S6's are 17x8. it's just the aftermarket companies that don't do it too much.

MOST cars that run wheels in the 17" diameter size have smaller fenders than german cars. Hence, they run a narrower wheel with a more skinny tire. It isnt uncommon therefor to see japanese vehicles with optional 17s, where the tires are narrow (205 or 215 mm) and the wheels are therefor also more skinny (7 or 7,5 inches wide).
Even on most OEM VW/Audi wheels they are most commonly 17x7,5 or 18x7,5 wheels, and in most cases ET35. Newer VW products carry a higher ET as the wheels are more inbound, its just a facet of the new Mk5 VW platform. Cant speak for Audis since I'm a VW convert.
In the long haul, finding a 17x8 wheel is rare, just because that wide of a wheel is not commonly required. You're more likely to find an 18" wheel in that width, than a 17" wide aftermarket wheel. Good luck and happy hunting!

1) forged polished 5-spoke 4.2 sport package wheels (here they are on my 2.7T)...

2) the ever-so-popular pie-plate wheels (bac2h's 4.2...I do not have a pic of those on a narrow-body A6)...

3) and the S6 avus wheel (on absolutcq20v's 2.7T, minus the centercaps)...

I think that is it for an OEM 17x8" ET35 wheel. You should take a look at the BBS RC (the non-Audi version) available at Tire Rack and is 17x8 ET35..AND they are lighter than the OEM wheels at about 19 pounds.
