Default 1999 A6 purchase 47k miles, extended warranties, timing belt

Hi all,

My wife and i are considering looking at some used A6's. I see that Audi reccomends 90k for the timing belt change but Audi owners who know better do it around 60k. Has any one who has had an extended warranty, and had the belt changed for peace of mind, been denied by the warranty company. My concern is that if i have it done at 60k miles, the warranty company could deny it because the factory says it should be done at 90k and 60k is too soon. Another related question, is this a warranty item or is it considered normal wear and tear consumable parts.

No warranty will cover that. Belts are wear items!!

Sorry, i forgot this one:

The extended coverages i see say something like 6 year/100k miles. Does this mean it is extended the warranty an additional 3 years and 50k miles from the original 3 year/50k?

Warrantech's Repair Master lists Timing Chain or Belt as covered.

Default Are you asking if you competently change it, does the warranty cover premature failure?

Or do you want to know if the Audi Assured Warranty requires it be changed again at 90,000 miles?

I don't know the answer to either question.

Default To get coverage under a service contract you gen. need "breakdown" of a covered part...

replacing the belt before it needs it (and it's hard to know when it "needs" it before it actually breaks) is routine maintenance, not covered by any service contract I know of.

Some of the covered items I have seen online with extended warranties say timing belt is covered. But I wonder does that mean it is only covered when it snaps and takes out the top half of the motor, or it and the labor is covered for a change in the normal course of scheduled maintenance. It may be a moot point since the current car my wife drives only got approx 8k miles per year put on it. So as long as I have the extended warranty to start and the belt goes, I will be covered.
