Default 2.7 Air conditioning noise

Has anyone else noticed a sort of constant creaking sound when the A/C is on. And if you have, do you know of any way to reduce the noise?

Thanks,

I may have that unusual sound also. It seems to come from the right side of the dash (right rear of engine compartment), and is present only with the AC running and for a short period after shutting it off. This sound oscillates in strength and sounds like a "creaking" (as you described), or an old steam locomotive moving slow.

I have not tried to find it yet, so I can not help with reducing the noise.

"Creaking" like a "steam locomotive?" Probably the "hiss" of evaporating freon -- mine does this.

This could be a freon line not properly routed or touching the frame; also could be an improper freon charge.

Jack may be on to something with the routing, I know AC lines touching the body or frame can cause all kinds of noises.

We have three descriptions now - "creaking" (chandos), "slow steam locomotive" (JP), and "hissing" (JimOB). I guess old steam locomotive do "creak" also. I was referring to the steam venting on each stroke of the engine.

Don't think I'll worry about it, or try to find it. I'll let the dealer check it at first service.

Mine also makes the "creaking," "hissing," or whatever other adjective you want to use. I think it's just the nature of the A/C design. I had a 1988 Volvo 740T which did the exact same thing....I just got rid of it this year and it always worked beautifully. I don't think I'm going to worry about it in this car, either.
