Default In only one word..."Oh, heck yeah! Gotta do both."

Well, that's more like 500 words, but you get the idea. Trust me, I got it and it makes a difference in shifting (from 1 sec. to .2 sec.) per GIAC.

Default CAPS not so much needed... I have to APR chip without a Tip Chip... (more)

and do notice a slight difference in drivability. It's nothing that you can't deal with, you just get some not-so-smooth shifts down low (1st, and 2nd mostly). The other thing I noticed is a small jolt when going from coasting, back to part throttle. I've heard that the Tip Chip takes care (or at least helps) with both of these issues.

My advice? If you can get your hands on the Tip Chip as easily as the APU chip, I'd do both.

when I had a Stage 2 upgrade w/ MTM ECU & GIAC Tip chip + other mods (see sig). I highly recommend it.

Pretty much. The extra torque makes the tip act funny. Shifts get jumpy.

Default Chip advice...

Get the chip from the closest and most reliable shop that is NEAR you. One that you can go to for continued service when the CEL codes appear or if the chip is not quite right.

Start with the ECI FLASH try your tranny in D and in S mode.. if you like it..leave it alone, If not GIAC has the most popular (perhaps only) tranny chip out.

Default Yes, MTM is another ecu chip option...

I chose that chip because I read that MTM ($795) was one of only one or two tuners that got ECU coding directly from Audi. Plus, it's not as aggressive vs. others like GIAC "X", etc.

I forgot to mention that $295 was only the price of the GIAC Tip chip, install price was extra. If I didn't go w/ the MTM/GIAC combo, my 2nd choice would've been O.CT from Stratmosphere.

Here's the link for more info re: MTM ecu chip...<ul><li><a href="http://www.hoppenmotorsport.com/a627tuning_1.htm">Hoppen Motorsports</a></li></ul>
