2.8 ATQ burned 1 QT~1.5 Quart vanished in 2000 miles
I recently made the switch to rotella 5w-40 from M1 0w-40. Some say when changing brands a notice in oil consumption is normal. BUT this is a bit excessive no?
No smoke, NO LEAKS
The acceleration is as good as ever.
THE car is being driven in intense heat. Its been about 100F everyday and the A/C is always on which puts more load on the engine.
The oil temp is JUST BARELY UNDER 225 id say its around 220-225 every drive.
What do you guys think? ONCE again no leaks.
Additional info 2001 2.8 ATQ 105k.
With mobil one 0w-40 (last oil change) it used about 1.5~2 quarts in 5000 miles while with rotella it is using about that much in just 2000 miles.

1.5 qt/2k miles is a great deal.
My car is using bit of oil (vastly less) for the first time in this 90-100 deg heat too.
Rotella T6 does shear down under heat and use. I dont use it any more. OTOH i did a UOA and overall the results were very good after 5500 miles. But it was down on hight temp cSt.
Dunno what more to say. 0w40 is only marginally a 40 to begin with.

I agree - i said its a great deal, as in "a lot"
I use typically 0.3L per 5-7k miles
Recently with 5w30 and 100 deg days and many long trips >200 miles i'm doing more like 0.2L/1000 miles.
A small fraction

use thicker oil. But it depends on why you are suddenly using it.
If its blowing by rings, valve guides, etc, there is no proper fix, since using very thick oil lessens the ability of oil to flow and lubricate. So by and large, deal with it and top off every 250 miles.
It may be related to the heat or ???
It happened right after you changed your oil, right?
