2000 2.8L CAM SPROCKET MARKINGS
Just a quick question here, folks.
I noticed these markings on my cam sprockets today. SEE BELOW...

I shade tree mechanic friend of mine said that these markings have some sort of significance as far as my timing is concerned. I was under the impression that as long as the cam sprocket ovoid mounting plates are aligned horizontally with the bigger holes pointing to each other and that the cam shaft locking tool bar fits, my cam shafts are at their TDC.
I kept telling him that the cam sprockets are not "keyed in" to the exhaust cam shafts and that these markings on the cam sprockets are probably there just for reference marks when counting teeth on the timing belt in cases where people have to reuse the belt.
Is there a certain number of timing belt teeth that need to be between these "dots" when reusing a timing belt? Do they need to be pointing to a certain location such as where the valve cover meets the cylinder head?
I tagged these markings on the above photo as 1, 2, and 3. Please advise my Audiworld brothers and sisters! THANKS!
