Default 2000 4.2A6Q Instrument cluster

OK, stealer wants $1200 plus to change out the instrument cluster. The pixels in the center are dim/out.
I can get it rebuilt at (link below) for $350.

How tough is it to remove/replace the cluster?
I understand the car cannot be driven because the immobilizer is in the cluster....do I need a VAG-COM tool to reinstall the cluster/immobilizer?

http://www.bba-reman.com/catalogue/DetailedProduct.aspx?DetailedProduct=282</a

Default Sloop-been awhile since I've seen you 'round here. Here's the write-up, courtesy of

AudiSean. And yes, the Vag-Com is required as part of the process.

Hope all is well with you.

DIY Instrument Cluster replacement

correct- it doesn't but you still need the Vag-Com to code the cluster.

Default May not need the VAG-COM...

Since they are rebuilding your cluster, and not just using it as a core and sending you another unit. Their webpage states that the mileage won't be affected, so it should be plug and play.

Default repost instrument cluster--I"m buying the display from .de

I'll let the board know how it works out.

About 165euro delivered registered mail to the US.

I asked how tough it was to install...they said it required some soldering. Ought to be interesting.

http://www.tachopix.de/nav.391/subnav.9430/language.en/</a
