Default 2000 A6 brake modulation (help!)

I give up. I have had the rotors/pads replaced and the hyrdraulic fluid replaced and my brakes have the worst modulation/brake pedal feel. I'll push on the pedal and at first it's firm, then it becomes soft causing a "jerking" movement. Any ideas what I can do to fix this issue? Braided brake lines? New master cylinder? I have no idea. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

What's your brake hydraulic system history since new? If unknown or none, overhaul all 4 calipers.

As far as the ABS circuit is concerned, I have no idea how to check that besides taking it in. In reference to the hydraulic system, I bought the car used over a year ago, so no history prior to that. What would that entail (new calipers, lines)? The pedal only goes soft during slow driving 10mph or less. If I really get on the brakes, then it's not a problem. Hope this information helps. Thanks

I said overhaul the calipers, new unnecessary, but can't hurt much.

Default ouch...two new rears are about $1100 installed.. Repair is $550 incl labor, much less for parts.

Agree with overhaul.

Default Rebuild kits are about $20 ior $30 each, plus lots of care.

Also do the guide pins, etc.

I consider this important maint when I do pad sand rotors, or at least rotors ( whcih is every other pad change, typically)
