Got up this morning and my A6 wouldn't start. It turns over but it never fires up. Also, when its cranking it sounds kinda sick. Started and drove fine yesterday. Anyone have any ideas what could have gone wrong in 24 hours? Is it the cold?

That can cause gas fouling of the spark plugs, and the engine won't start till you clean the plugs. THere are a number of potential things though, if you aren't into troubleshooting these kinds of things, call your dealer. If you are, ask away.

You need to pull codes. If it is turning over, but not starting it will have some fault code in it.
Anything we could tell you on what the problem could be is just speculation.

Car has 60k miles on it. I'm sure its the original battery. Car is a 2000 so 4 years old. The manual says to check the fluid levels. Where do I check that? Is it on the side of the battery. I don't see how I can even get the battery out of there to look.

would not start. The day before the starting had been very slightly labored compared to any other day when the car would start when you got the key near the switch. Replaced the battery and car started like new. Just gotta replace all codes wiped out when old battery taken out. Battery (based on build date) 50 months old.
Sure glad this did not happen on the 25th.
Cheers,
