2001 4.2 to 2002 S6
I'm probably going to do this, so I'd welcome all comments, advice, trade-in expectations, actual, real price to pay for this beast.
Finman, what's up with Alcantera? Would you really do it again??
Why am I doing this? Well, I have a dog for starters...

I don't know what options and how many miles you car has, but I would expect a trade-in value in the mid to high $30K range.
A local Audi dealer was advertising a used 2001 A6 4.2 in the LA Times for something like $38,000 this past weekend.

Alcantara is awesome...yes, I would do it again...plus...only $250! ($3500 in the S8!!!)
If you don't like it, don't get it...but everyone who has been in it has loved the Alcantara both on the seats and on the ceiling/headliner. I don't believe they were humouring me...I believe they were all genuine...I could see it in their eyes!
Trade-in expectations...$35k, IMO. If you could sell it yourself, you'd get $40k...but that is not easy...maybe your parents need a new car?
I'm lucky, I have a friend who has already said he will buy the 4.2 whenever I want to sell it.

100% agree with Finman...
I like the Alcantara seat inserts, especially in ebony. They help to break up the interior a bit, and are every comfortable
They seem to grip my butt better than straight leather on other cars and I expect them to be cooler in the summer.
A bargain at $250.
