I just had to replace mine at 48,000. Sounds like that's about the lifespan.

Default What would the symptoms be, vibration or noise, or something else?
Same part on 4.2 and 2.7?

Default Symptoms in message...
I brought the car in for a service and they told me. Interesting enough I started hearing a noise a few days before --if I turn the wheels and I'm stopped I hear sort of a scraping noise.

I had a little bit of wandering at speed, but I thought it was tires/alignment, not tie rods.

Default Totally, had ours replaced under warranty at 40k with p/s rack
Audi has never had robust steering components. Its about par for the corse.
