I am about to purchase a 2001 2.7T. I am quite excited about the power I will get from upgrading from a 2.8V 1996 A4. I have already checked it out and test driven it. One thing I quickly noticed was the suspension. It was quite soft compared to my 96 A4. With my driving style, I am a bit concerned. I think this A6 does not have the sports package. I don't care much about the sports seats. I wonder if I can tune the suspension to resemble the stock A6 with a sports package sports suspension. What else am I missing from not having the sports package? I would love any advice I can get and more.

For cheap, several people on this forum will probably have a takeoff rear bar from the sport package, as many have gone aftermarket.
The struts on the car you're looking at are probably on their last legs, anyway. Konis or regular Bilsteins will work with non-sport springs. Won't appreciably change ride height.
You can get sportier struts and springs if you want. AFAIK, no one offers aftermarket sport springs that only drop .75". Usually about 1.25". Usually not recommended to get sport struts and keep the stock non-sport springs.

What about wheels? How wide can I go. Right now the car has 16". I like the look of the wheels on most A6 4.2's. Does Audi make 17" or 18" for the 2001 A6 2.7T? I decided to browse on ebay but most of what I saw said "not for A6 2.7T"
I think I will look into some good aftermarket shocks and springs and maybe the swaybar. You didn't mention the front swaybars. Are they not that important too?
