Hi All. First time poster here
I'm planning on piking up a 2001 A6 tomorrow. Was wondering if there was anything I should look out for in particular, or anything I should be worried about.
I realize it kind of a old year, but it only has roughly 15k miles on it and apparently was never taken on the highway.
Any suggestions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Lots of different answers for different configurations.

Good car, I have four at the moment, all with the same engine, three with manual trans, one with tiptronic.
Pros: Manual is more reliable than tiptronic, engine is fairly powerful, and fairly frugal. Comfortable on long trips, quattro means that (with good tires) you can drive anywhere anytime.
Cons: Check Engine Lights... if you don't know how to fix them you are at the mercy of someone who does (mechanic). I recommend getting the Ross Tech VCDS, another OBD reader pales by comparison. Boost leaks/vacuum leaks can cause rough running, CELs and loss of power. Clutch: be kind to it, replacement is about 25 hours. Timing belt and waterpump seem to be regular maintenance items.
If you don't do the work yourself, remember that in 2001 it was a $50K luxury auto, and maintenance prices are on the par with Mercedes and Porsche. (not cheap.)
If you decide you don't want to buy it, let me know... I might be interested, depending on location and price...
