As to the question about whether the TB moving means the cams are moving.
Answer: not necessarily, but it is a decent indication. The problem is that there could be a broken chain within the head causing some valves not to spin, or (rare) a disconnect bewteen the moveable cam sprocket and the cam itself.

More likely is that the belt is damaged and the cams are turning but are just out of time.
More failures I see are missing teeth on the cam belt.

well I see I am apparently too stupid to fix this myself because I guess I should be looking at lawn mowers. After having two Audis and various other cars I have learned a few things but not every thing. I am not a mechanic, and dont really like the thought of towing my car 100 miles away to the nearest dealer to have them rip me off for thousands of dollars. But thanks for your help to those of you who tried. I will be either parting it out or selling it as is... I have a job and classes to get to and this car just isnt cutting it considering I've had it since June and have only been able to drive it about two months of that time. No more Audis for me.
Lighten up, Francis.
Check your cam timing.

Where in MI?
There may be an Audi specialist near you. If so, it would be worth a couple C notes to have him diagnose your car's problem and give you an estimate to fix it. It could be major mechanical malfunction or a loose wire. Either way, money well spent.
Good Luck

Not sure about the 4.2 mine's a 2.7T) but.......here's my thought. You have spark and you have fuel. Could be something simple. I had a bad coolant temp sensor that did just that. No codes. There's a sensor for the gauge and another for the ECU. But it only failed to start when hot, not cold. The temp sensor sets up the injectors to get the correct mixture. If it's bad, the engine will run very rich and won't start because it thinks the engine is cold. Could it be the same if it was cold? Too lean? Just a thought.

Okay. No power to fuel pump. It's not the relay. It's not a bad camshaft position sensor. There is slack in my timing chain on one side and if u turn the engine by hand it gets tension? What is going on here?
