And upon what do you base the comment that Vinton seals are superior?

Well, theyre being used throughout my vehicle now, and i dont have any leaks for the first time since ownership, my tech at prolly the best foreign car shop in my city had vouched for em, and from a bit of research on the web. maybe "superior" is not the right word im thinkin, "workin" is more like it. But a seal is also only as good as the tech who installed it, so maybe ive had crappy Audi techs and others b4...possible.

Yes I do think it was worth it. I have a bentley as well which can be vague at best sometimes. The dvd walks you through every single step. I just setup the laptop in the garage and followed the dvd. I was done with the timing belt in around an hour. There are some hidden bolts and tips that really help we you can see them and then turn around and do it. Helped me a lot. Money well spent I was happy to support his effort to support us DIY's.

Default seals

The cars are notorious for leaking seals, as they age. You may want
to look at the p/s pump. There are issues with the over-pressure relief valve (internal in the pump). Had to replace my pump on my '00 Avant at 72K miles...Good thing you are handy with tools. There's lots that goes wrong with these cars, after a while.

Default THANKS.

Please keep the advice coming - you've given me alot of good information to get started...

What about teh VC Gaskets... hard to tell if they are contributing, definitley looks like some leakage from the filler cap - is that common too?

VC gaskets don't matter. You'll have to replace them anyway when you do the cam adjuster seals.
