Default 2002 A6 3.0 timing, TDC valves Closed?? or open

I am helping a friend who has a 02 A6 with a 3.0. I have never worked on the 3.0 but have done belts on many other Audi's.
here is the problem!!! the belt skipped time! I believe only 1 or 2 teeth, so we are hoping for the best. but from what I understand from directions I have seen you insert the Cam locks with the Crank mark lined up, supposidly the cam locks only fit one way, if they don't fit rotate another 180 degrees. Well since my cams skipped time how the heck do i know where to put the cam lock. in one position, they seem to be off 1 or 2 teeth, if i rotate another turn on the crank they are maybe 3 teeth off the other direction?
I have not checked but for TDC I assume all valves should be closed, and I haven't checked but I assume if they are 180 off the valves will not be closed?

can anyone confirm TDC and the position of the Valves?

If the TB has slipped, you'll need to remove the belt from the cam sprockets, and then rotate each cam until you can install the cam locking tools. Since you're only off 1 – 2 teeth, rotate the crank until the crank is at the TDC position and the cam shafts are close to being in the correct position. Remove the belt, rotate each cam as necessary to install the cam locking tools, then re–install the TB per Audi's directions. TDC doesn't mean that all valave are closed, only that the cylinder ID'd by Audi is at TDC, and its valves are closed. I'm not familiar with the 3.0L V6, so I can't tell you which cylinder is considered TDC. But on the 2.8L 12 valve V6, TDC means cylinder #3 is the top of its stroke, IIRC.

that was my plan, but my concern is that i don't want to set the cams 180 degrees off? I just haven't found any info on how to determine if the cams are correct or off 180 degrees. I was hoping I could tell this by the position of the valves, either open or closed. has anyone done their belt and noticed, or by chance anyone in the middle of changing their belt that can check this weekend?

thanks

If the engine is running, your cams are not off by 180 degrees.
