Is the 2002 A6 4.2 an aluminum block engine?

typically aluminum blocks are used to save weight. For example, the v8 is lighter than the iron block v-6s. In audis, with the motor in front of the front axel, this is a big deal.
OTOH, they are more fragile, adn cant be drilled out. Audi alloy blocks have a nikisil liner that is largely immune to normal wear. Really really hard. Of course, the rings are less so.
