2002 a6 avant front vibration at 70 mph
hello:
I just took delivery of 2002 a6 avant. It has 21000 miles on it.
in highway driving at almost exactly at 70 mph I feel front end vibration in the steering, faint but noticable.
Is it due to tires/alignment/balancing? do I take it back for warranty service?
is it from suspension itself
p.s. as a reference I have owned few vw's and almost all of them will show this vibration problem with old tyres. However surprisingly wiht my last car which was a bimmer, I rarely noticed this problem even when the tyres were 'old'. is it due to rear drive/front/all wheel drive?
thanx

could be a number of different things.....balancing, tires, ball joints.. etc....
get the tires re-balanced first..., or better yet take it back to the dealer first, and tell them about the vibration, and let them figure it out...good luck.. my vibration was due to a stud conversion kit....

Could be several things check for bent rims too >
I had a bent rim on my car and it vibrated like that. Also check your control arms and tie rod ends. The most obvious though would be balance. Find a shop with a Hunter road balance machine and take it to them. Go to Hunter's website and they will give you a list of dealers who have the road balance system.

My 99 had a similar issue
It was cured by replacing the stock 16" rims with some 18" RS4 reps...
When you roll one of the rims, it has a noticable bend to it, in fact it will stop at the same point on the tire every time. I'd pull the rims before paying someone, and just check for that sort of damage. Then, I would road force the setup.
