2003 A6..Why no tip buttons on steering wheel ??
#7
It was dropped...happens all the time...add one thing, drop one or two others...
the heated steering wheel has come, gone, and come back...back and forth...don't really know why...
Deleting the tip-buttons on the wheel makes no real sense...they could've at least packaged it with some option package or something...

That's an S6 steering wheel. Plus a question.
I think you will find tat the S6 has tip, but no radio buttons. The A6 has Radio buttons, but no tip. Don't know why they do that. My BMW has all buttons, incl cruise control, this makes it easier to use as you have everything at your finger tips.
Question: On the A6, the radio up and down buttons goes into search mode, how can I simply go up and down the preset channels?

It was an Audi decontenting trick for 03
The tip controls and the radio steering wheel controls were there on both the A6 and Allroad for '02.The tip steering wheel controls disappeared from the '03 models, as Audi's way to keep the sales price down...I think it's nonsense. As those tip switches are little more than basic electrical relays. I can't believe it can cost more than just a few dollars per car to put them there. There is an article somewhere in the tech session that describes how to self-install tip switches. If someone is reasonably handy and so inclinded, it does not seem to be a big deal at all to do. It is a shame that they dropped them. Another example-the rear heated seats disappeared from the Avants.

Unfortunately, there is no way to do it...well, unless you are good with electronics...
I believe in the early 2000 and earlier A6s, the 2 bottom buttons on the steering wheel were for "Preset up" and "Preset down"...but then they were converted to phone buttons (which almost no one had the phone!!!) and have never been reconverted.
So, it is obvious that there is a way to do it, that is, connect those phone buttons to wherever they need to go to affect the radio...how this is done, I don't know...but I have no doubt someone has done it...or could figure it out.
The phone buttons are useless for 98%.
