Default 2005 S8 and 2006 S6

I was told on the A8-S8 board that according to the 5-02 issue of Automobile magazine the new S8 will have an all new four cam 48V 6L W12 with FSI producing 450 hp and 398 ft/lbs of torque. Many other sources have said the same thing. Many of these same sources (but not Automobile magazine) have also said that the new S6 will have an all new four cam 40V 5L V10 with FSI producing 420 hp and 362 ft/lbs of torque. Are Automobile magazine and all of these other sources (whatever they are) reliable and frequently correct about stuff like this?

398 lb-ft on a 48v 6.0L motor is pathetic; even 450hp ain't great.

Default I wish Audi would give up on NA S-cars... they're so uninspiring.

Well, if we were never spoiled by Audi's turbocharging capabilities, maybe we wouldn't care... but to reserve turbos for the RS-cars is kind of disappointing.

Depends on the shape of the torque curve. If it gets there at 1200 RPM and stays to 6000, great.

Okay but are Automobile magazine and the numerous other sources (whatever they are) saying that the new S8 will have a 6L W12 producing a "not so great" 450 hp and a "pathetic" 398 ft/lbs of torque reliable and frequently correct?

Maybe the new NA S cars will be much more inspiring. Don't give up hope just yet.

Why is a V8 in the M5 inspiring but not in an S6. I think the problem is mass and wgt distribution.

And slushbox transmission. (A great slushbox, but still slush.)

Default My 740il had 284 HP out of a 4.4 liter V8

That would work out to 380HP on a 6 liter. Most people think of the BMW engine as pretty good, although I think the new 4.4 with no throttle has three hundred + HP (still works out to just about 450 if it were enlarged to 6 liters). Remember that the S cars are supposed to be luxury daily drivers not sports cars. The RS cars are supposed to be more comparable to BMWs M cars.
