225/40/18 tire size OK for A6?
well its time for new tires for my 18's. and not only are there 3 times the different brands and sizes for 225/40/18, but they are 20-50 dollars cheaper per tire than 235/40/18.
is it ok to run 225/40/18 on an A6??? i realize there will be a .5% speedo error but is there anything really wrong with that?

The load factor of the tires is more the issue than the size. Most 225/40s aren't rated to...
...handle our portly C5s.
235s look and perform better, too, though I'm about to swap my 235s for 245s! 18" x 8.5" wheels will look better with the bigger tires, IMO, and the speedo will be low by 1.2 mph @ 60mph. I can live with that.

don't do it - i had them, i hated them
they're just too small - they'll squeal all over the place and they make it look like the wheel is too small - it just doesn't work - i hated the 225 so much i skipped 235 and went to 245!
