A6 1996 water in engine
If the mechanic says that there was water in the engine does that mean that the engine is totally out of commission? Can that engine be repaired by reboring the cylinders?
Or, do I need to purchase a used engine and replace it with what's in the car right now?
Thanks for your advice and help. I don't think that anyone locally where I live is giving me the most efficient answer and I like the car.
Is it worth fixing? And if so... how?

Interesting.
Water or coolant?
That's two totally different things. Assuming you're running proper coolant and he said "water", it would be very weird to have water pooling in the engine "just like that".
If he meant coolant, you probably have busted head gasket there.

regardless it is very bad ... if you got a lot of coolant in the engine case I would say your bearings are toast ..if it is the cylinders it doesn't compress well.. either way does not sound promising
