Dropped my silver 97 A4 1.8TQ off for servicing monday morning and was given the keys to what I thought was an 2000 A6 2.8Q. As I was getting onto the highway, I found out what was really under the hood, the 2.7T. The last time I was thrown into the back of the driver seat by a car with an auto was never. I had no idea what was under the hood until I got to work. (I began to suspect that is was the 2.7T because I could hear the hum from the turbos, but was not sure.)
But wow. I know what my next car might be in 4 to 9 years down the road. And I can only imagine how much more powerful the 2.7T will be by then. Wow. I wonder what the performance of it is like with the 6 speed. (I drive manual, and rarely drive auto).
One thing I did not like was the tiptronic transmission, I could not coordinate in my head the front being upshift and down being downshift. Because as we all know in a stick shift up can be either downshift or upshift and down the same thing. I wish that they would do it side to side like in the Dodge Intrepid (Rented one a few years back on business). Where to the right is always up and to the left is down, like in the standard trannies.

If you owned the car, you'd remember which way was which real quick. This is a non-issue.
I solve the problem by leaving mine in "D".
The TIP is only good for setting up for accelerations as far as I can tell. And I do that very rarely.
