I'm looking to get some of the A6 2.7T 16 inch Audi OEM wheels for winter/winter tire use with the S4 Avant I have on order. I think I personally prefer the look of the 5 spoke model over that of the "split" spokes. Which wheel is the stock wheel for the A6 2.7T, and does the other come with the sport package? Also, does anyone know the part number and the list price of the 5 spokes? Finally, does anyone here have any experience mounting 205 series tires on these wheels, I'd be running 205/55HR16 Michelin Pilot Alpins and am worried about sidewall/curb protection. Many thanks in advance.

The split wheels come with the sport package, about $500 each at the dealer. ronalusa.com, which supplies Audi's OE rims, has rims that look very similar to the standard 2.7 rims, and will cost you about 60% less. I don't know what size tire comes standard on your S4 but 205 doesn't sound like enough rubber for days when it is dry.

Yeah, I know they recommend a narrower tire so the tire bites down through the snow, rather than float on top, but going from a 225 to 205, especially factoring the different rim size seems extreme. On the 2.7T, the stock(non-sport) all-season tires--which Audi says can be used in the snow and which will get you past the Highway Patrol when chains are required unless the car has AWD and snow tires---are the same width as the "performance" tires (215's). The S4 is only marginally lighter than the A62.7. Also, the smaller tire theory only applies if you driving in deep snow. If you face a lot of ice, a larger tire is used to increase the contact area. Also, if you are really driving in a lot of deep snow, remember, the smaller tire rule really came about for 4WD trucks and SUV's equipped with the big ballon tires that really floated on the snow. While the same general theories apply to your vehicle, the S4 faces a problem that SUV's do not---that is, the S4 has a serious ground clearance issue, a little "float" may actually help and/or keep you from getting stuck in deep snow. So are you really driving most of the winter in deep snow--especially new snow over packed snow, or are you just trying to cut through a few inches of slush/snow and make sure your tire gets to the pavement below. I would investigate further--call the guys at Tire Rack.

I will have a set of brand new 5 spoke wheels in a few days when I take delivery of a 2.7T w/o Sport package. I am looking to get a set of the twin-spoke wheels that come with the sport package. You can E-mail me @ jgnodar@us.ibm.com to discuss price..
