I had a 2000 M5 and traded it for a 2001 M3 but now I want to move back to a larger car.
Because some of the issues I had with the M5 and the BMW service people I am looking at the A6, not to mention the lower cost. I was considering the 2002 2.7tt 6spd and add the MTM Stage 2 kit.
Does anyone have 0-60 performance for the setup and driving impressions. Is the setup quicker then the A6 4.2?
Doug.

An M5, mightiest of all beasts, to an M3, king of the twisties, to an A6 2.7T?? Are you crazy?! Do you realize how many of these guys are going to jump on this! I can't hold them off all by myself! I'm toast!
Later. I'm outta here for at least 24 hours. :-)

Boy your coming from a nice stable of cars. Yes A6 is slightly larger inside for you. If your running from bad service, I 'll let the others give their opinion of the Audi service, all I can say is it has gotten better the last 6 months.
6 speed stock runs 14.4's best and average about 14.7-14.8. One A6 6 speed has run 13.6 at the track with a 5.07 0-60mph during that run. That same car has better brakes coilovers and handles the twisties very nicely! You would need to add coilovers, 17 wheels, to get the handling better, like Muhammad has said. You may never get the same handling like you've been accustomed too. But it will still be fairly decent, plus you have the quattro.
The V8 A6 4.2 may not be the straightline mover like your cars but it has a very smooth engine and the car blends together very well in the overall package. There is also the S6 but is sounds like you need a manual instead of an automatic. 2.7T has the 6 speed/automatic , 4.2-S6 Automatics.

For about $5K you can tune the A6 2.7T to handle well, and have grat acceleration. You're still not going to get the overall power of an M5 - but you can hang with one from 40-90...(see archives...) 0-60 in the 5.2-5.4 range, and 1/4 mile times on the high 13's with the 6 spd.
Just add: Chip, exhaust, 17" wheels, sport springs/shocks (or coilovers), pull your 605 relay and *poof* high performance touring sedan!
(ps - it's still easier/cheaper to do all this than it is to add Quattro to an M5 :-) )

Unless you have a dire need for quattro, you've made one huge mistake already with another on the way.
Wow, who says the economy is slowing down when people can shoot through $180K worth of cars in two years? You must have taken a huge bath. If not, prepare to.

...however, a tuned 2.7T A6 will be able to run mid to high 13s in the 1/4 mile.
A tuned 2.7T will be able to take the 4.2 in a drag race quite easily but on the freeway, the margin is much smaller.
The M5 is King of Hill, I would go back to the M5 and go to another dealer if you are looking for the ultimate in 4-Door Sedan.
However, if you can settle for 95% the M5 performance, a moderately tuned A6 2.7T is the ticket.
