Default A6 3.0 vs A6 2.7T vs A6 2.7T S-Line

I just took delivery of an '04 A6 S-Line (my third Quattro) and had a question for you gearheads/tech dudes as there doesn't seem to be a wealth of technical info on the S-Line.

1. What is the basic difference between the standard A6 3.0 (220hp) Quattro and the 2.7T biturbo (250 hp) Quattro, (suspension, sway bars, wheel size, interior/exterior trim, etc.

2. What are the technical differences between the standard 2.7T Quattro and the S-Line option, other than the extra 15 ponies and increased torque.

3. When did Audi begin producing the S-Line, why (must have been market-driven) and how many '04 S-Line's were produced.

I noticed immediately that the S-Line ride is more firm than the standard '04 A6 and substantially more firm (harsh the bride says) compared to my old '97 standard A6 Quattro.

Any specs would be appreciated and/or some URL's that cover this kind of stuff. She's only got 551 miles on her but so far I'm impressed with the performance and can't wait for the break-in period to end!

Thanks!

Default 1) shorter springs and 30% more dampening with the sport shocks on the S-line. The

rear sway bar has a larger diameter. Basically it's the same sport suspension that was stadard equipment on the 2.7t starting in 03. Wheel size would depend on which one you get. Only trim difference are the badges and spoiler IIRC.

2) If your asking how Audi increased the HP. I don't know and doubt they'll let it be known.

3) 04 how many I don't know.

Default Some basic info can be found by looking in the model guide

That will give you spec differences between the 3.0 and 2.7t.

S-Line specs can be found here: https://www.audiworld.com/news/03/102403/content.shtml

No word on production numbers.<ul><li><a href="https://www.audiworld.com/model/a6/04/specs.shtml">Engine model specs</a></li></ul>

Default Pretty sure the motivation for the s-line was solely...

to provide something that would make the last C5's attractive to the consumer. So I think you are right to say that it was "market driven", but not because people with current C5s were crying for a care rated for 15 more ponies with a spoiler.

It was an option in Europe for some time already. AoA dragged it out to keep up interest.

As I recall in the EU the 2.7 t has always been 265 HP in either A6 or S4

Default Sure, sure. But keeping up interest is directly related to...

needing to continue to sell something when the C6's are right around the corner, isn't it??

By the way, your sig is a picture of you, right?? ; )

Default Yes, and AoA keeps dragging things out instead of making it available as it becomes available

in Europe. I think they also lose some people when they do that, since folks get tired of waiting. AoA says they are going to do much more timely introductions this time around, so that the A6 looks like more of a complete product, and AoA doesn't have to keep making excuses that the good stuff is around the corner - and usually a bit behind the times compared to other auto makers.

Ha, ha! No, it's not me in the sig
