I am about to purchase a 2001 A6 4.2 or 2.7T. I am interested in any advise I can get on what to look for, which car is better, ect. The specs are so close it's hard to make up my mind. Any thoughts on which one is more reliable. I will be keeping the car stock for the most part. I have never owned an Audi, I have always wanted an Audi or BMW I can finally afford one, I chose Audi. I am looking for the best driving experienc, and big enough to hold the family.

lots of HP under that hood, and no worries about turbos down the road. 4.2 has no manual option, but you can get manual tranny in the 2.7T. Both are great cars.
If I had to do it again, I would lean towards the 4.2 Those wide fenders make the car look like it is moving when it is standing still!
You will spend a few more $$$ for the 4.2

Of course condition of each car needs to be comparable.
Drive both back to back. Vastly different cars. You may find you like one much better than the other.

I test drove a 2.7T and a 4.2 and bought the 4.2....I liked the "wide body" design, fender flares and the V-8 engine.
As stated the turbo, down the road, may have some maintenance issues but if you are going to keep it "stock' and you like the way it drives....go with the 4.2.
If you have any other questions feel free to email me.
Good luck and ENJOY!

Thanks for the help. I have been leaning towards the V8, I love the wheel flares, the HP and test drive. My friend is getting me into a dealer action at the end of the month. He said there are allot of these cars coming of lease for sale. How can I go about getting an extended warranty? Is it worth it in your opinion? what the process?
