Iam in need of a new front engine motor mount and want to know if thats what people refer to as the snub mount. My mechanic is in the process of a timing belt service and noticed after removing the radiator that my front lower engine mount was bad. Please let me know if its the snub mount or whatever its called so i can get the item. I'm new to the 4.2 platform so any help is appreciated. thanks

Yes, front engine mount or snub mount as some call it. For the A6/S6 4.2, 2000-2004, it is P/N 4D0-199-267.
genuinevwaudiparts.com has it for about $60 (Yes, OEM Audi part, not aftermarket).
It's common for them to need replacement, mine was cracked almost in half at 71k miles when I did TB service.

Just replaced mine too. Get ready for the locating dowel to vaporize when you hit it with an impact wrench. You'll need to grab the steel base with pliers to remove it from the lower bracket. Oh, and it's tons of fun to install. I did it in a full day.

I had to remove a couple front engine mounts on my 2K4.2 when I did the coolant pipe replacement in the oil cooler.
The frontmost one is about cam high...tough to get out without service position and I had to go to service position anyway to get the oil cooler out. The bracket wasn't broken, but the mount was. Highly recommend you check yours out and replace as necessary.
The lower passenger side bracket and engine mount were relatively easy to get out once the alternator and SAI pump were out of the way. FWIW, that bracket and mount have to come out to get the engine oil cooler out to replace the plastic coolant transfer tube. IF you have to pull the alternator and SAI pump and put the front end into service position and remove/replace that bracket you might consider putting in the aluminum transfer pipe (Bufkin engineering makes them, $30 so) before the plastic one disintegrates at around 130K or ten years...in the pic the bufkin tube is at the lower right with two O-rings showing. The damaged plastic pipe is the black bit on the pig blanket.

1995 Audi A6
There was a fairly bad rattling sound out of the passenger side of my a6 so i took it to the garage and was told that the shock was gone. I have since replaced the shock, tracking rod, and the wishbone bush! The noise has not gone away, I'm thinking it could be the engine or gearbox mounts...any ideas to what it could be??
