I've noticed as well that it's *very* easy to out-drive the low beams, to the point I've considered auxiliary lights for highway driving in the middle of nowhere.
...But I'll give this suggestion a shot, first.

I would also check your aiming following the howto I linked to in my previous post. DOT spec for these lights is a 10% declination (ie. the beam drops 2.5" over 25"), when I aimed mine the initial declination was closer to 18 -20%. Setting them correctly allows the furthest possible beam travel while still not blinding oncoming traffic.

Maaaan, that article you linked seems very good (I only scanned it) and seems like goes to the level of detail I would. So respect to the author, actually is it you?
The "levelling process" in Vag-COM merely locks the light in place so it will not relevel allowing you to manually aim them. There is no need to go through the Vag-COM process. C5 xenon's do not constantly relevel, they do it only once when you first start the car/turn on the lights. Just allow them to level then don't turn them off during aiming and you're fine.
You want to aim them on a 10% drop, or 2.5" over 25'. Daniel Stern Lighting Consultancy and Supply
Also, buying good bulbs like Phillips 85122+'s or Osram Xenarc 66240 SVS' will make a MASSIVE difference over your old tired bulbs.
