The idle is quite stabile, but it kind of floats a little bit up and down. What you are describing about putting the car in drive or activating the ac sounds about right.
I have no idea what kind of oil is in there. I just purchased it, and it came with fresh oil. What weight should I be using?

Sorry ti hijack this thread, but I have a UK 2.4ltr A6 and my idle does dip when the air-cons activaed, when put in drive and to be honest when I activate anything electrical.
The initial start-up idde can also be erratic.
The cars done this since I bought it 6-months ago so I've lived with it, but I'd love to know if there's a cure.
