A6 4.2 vs. A6 2.7T
I was looking at the information on the Audi web site and I'm now confused.
What's the difference between the A6 4.2 and the A6 2.7T?
I ran through the confgurator and they appear to have the same options and same 0-60 times, but the 2.7 T is about $7K cheaper - 48K vs 55K.
Any ideas?

The 4.2 has more standard features (for starters)
Let's see. I know that these things are standard on the 4.2 but are options on all other A6 models:
Leather Seating ($1550 option on 2.7T)
Sideguard head airbag ($300 option on 2.7T)
Bose sound system ($750 option on 2.7T)
Sunroof/homelink/auto dimming mirrors ($1650 option on 2.7T)
Right there is $4250 in standard equipment over the 2.7T.
Then, the 4.2 has the V8 engine in it, and it also has an updated body. The 4.2 has more agressive looking fender flares, the grille is different, and a number of other things. According to Audi, the front of the 4.2 has been completly redesigned and has very little in common with the other A6's (other than looks). I believe the 4.2 also uses an all aluminum suspension, which is firmer and more sporty (unlike the 2.7T which is soft and not very sporty)
I'm not sure, but I think the 4.2 also has an aluminum hood to save on weight. And I think it uses aluminum in a lot of other places too. Follow the link to the press release on the 4.2 and that will give you more details on what is different on this model.

Do note 4.2 rear designed to seat 2 people instead of 3 (more)
Do note that 4.2 rear has "contoured" seat designed for 2 people with only 2 three point safety belts with automatic pre-tensioning (others have 3).
All A6s has aluminum hood, it's not unique to 4.2. But only 4.2 has aluminum front fenders as well.
Other difference:
standard steering wheel audio control
electically adjustable steering wheel (not available on 2.7T)
standard hands free cellular phone
standard ski sack
alloys standard/options are different
But there is no front sport seats option on the 4.2

Those 17" wheels on the 4.2 are butt ugly!
Guys,
They remind my of those awful wheels on the 2.8 A6. If I were getting the 4.2, I'd probably opt for the 16" wheels, which look much better IMO.
Better yet, are the sport wheels on the 2.7T. I do wish they were 17", tho........(sigh)
