A6 4.2L vs. S8 4.2L?

A6 4.2L vs. S8 4.2L?
I have a 2001 A6 4.2L quattro and wanted to know if it is possible to switch to a 2001 S8 chip/ECU and obtain the S8's 360 HP versus my standard 300 HP A6. If it won't work, is it different camshafts or intake? Please help

Aaahhh. if only it were that simple..The answer is no. Its not the ECU that gives the xtra Hp
The internals of the S8 motor are different than that of the A6.. Different cams, intake manifolds, blah blah blah..
Best you can hope for is about 30 hp gain by chipping yours and adding a performance exhaust..

yup.. it's cams.. 2 path intake manifold as opposed to the 3 path...
exhaust... and more aggressive timing in the ECU... Ryoung is an S8 owner on the d2 a8 boards.. he and I were comparing our timing settings... my a6 4.2 had some timing tweaks and I was pulling 11-13 degrees of timing at WOT... his S8 was doing that stock. =)

I don't doubt it's been covered a million times...that is often the prob with a search.
I have faced this many times on other boards. When in the know, I usually give a quick response to help rather than replying to someone to search. Often manufacturers and opinions change. A new product may come out or a price discounted but I digress...I will put my tail between my legs and hit the search button at some point. Just hoping for some quick instant gratification......
