Default IS THE A6 BRAKE PROBLEM FIXED WITH THE 2003?

I love my 2001 but would not buy it because of the warped rotor problems.

Default Define "fixed". They changed the calipers...(more)

The huge HP2 calipers are gone, replaced by more "standard" calipers.

In my experience driving an '03, the brake feel (and power) isn't quite as good, but the new calipers probably won't heat up the rotors as much, so the system may work better overall, for durability.

You can solve that problem for about $500 with new aftermarket rotors.

Default Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with the overall design of the original brake

system...just bad rotors and so-so pads. Just adding to your comments.

Yeah. Other than bad rotors and pads, the brakes are fine. ;-)

Default 24K on my 01, no problems, brake pads look like new...

according to the mechanic that did my state inspection.

Default Stopping distances are very good IMO and the caliper design is sound. Whereas now

you have a weaker caliper and slightly vented rotors but (I assume) worse stopping distances.

They just screwed up on the rotors really. You can't expect stock pads to stand up to track abuse. That's what I was saying.

But yeah, it did sound funny : )

Default It's a shame that they would "solve" the problem by reverting to lesser brakes rather than...

... a better quality of rotor. I guess VW is putting all of their resources into coil packs. No time to fix brakes.

Default I've Beaten The Tar Out Of My Brakes And They Are Still Perfect

I think because mine were bedded properly and that I regularly use them quite hard that they stay in good shape. Frankly, I'm surprised at how little pad and rotor wear there is for how aggresively I drive. I also suspect that rolling a wee bit at stoplights helps from building up hot spots that can cause warping.

The calipers do flex a bit, but nowhere near as bad as they did on my S4. I recall on the S4 how it was difficult to brake gently because they would flex-grab so badly.

But hell, I'm not really sure why my brakes have held up so well. Even the dealer is surprised. I just hope it stays this way.

Yeah, but the S6 brakes are huge in comparison. Aren't they?
