Hello, I am new to this forum but am very much liking what I have read so far.
Well, I have a 2001 Audi A6 2.7T with around 110,000 miles that has begun to make this loud noise when I start her up. It is sort of a revving sound but the RPMs stay normal. The revving-like sound is followed by a higher pitched moan that fluctuates on and off. It sounds slightly like a belt, but nowhere near as high pitched as a slipping belt whine. The sound gets worse when I turn the steering wheel.
However, after driving it for a little while, the sound goes away. If I turn her off after driving a bit and then turn it back on, the sound does not come back. The sound only occurs if the car has not been driven for a few hours.
Any suggestions?

its the SAI pump and stuff... normal on a car when cold... even more normal to hear it more in colder weather, watch in the summer you wont hear it at all.. uless you live in like antartica or somthing

I should add that this noise is not just a revving noise that it makes when cold. It is a BAD sound. Like a whirring noise. When I start it up, people around the car stop and look with a "what the @!@$#$" face on... it sounds like a 1980 toyota that is falling apart.

My '01 A6 has made a rattling sound on cold start-up ever since it was new. Back 'in the day', the warranty guys never gave it a minute when I complained, which lead me to beleive it was one of those famous "they all do that" moments. So, I stopped complaining. 10+ years and 100K+ miles later, it still does it.

It sounds just like a panel or heat sheild vibrating and lasts for 1-2 seconds. it dfoes not make the noise when warm or at high ambient temps.

Same noise ?
