Default A6 CVT Transmission same for 2wd & Quattro models?

I'm helping a friend buy a used transmission for their 2003 Audi A6 CVT 2-wheel-drive. Does the transmission have to come from another 2-wheel drive model or is it the same for a Quattro model? How can I tell the transmission "code" as it seems that is what most sellers list on their page/auction/etc?

Any advice or suggestions here would be great. Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure, but I bet they are different, call your local dealer or shokan.

You will have to use another CVT from another FWD C5.

Only FWD C5s have a CVT.
Only automatic AWD C5s have a conventional 5-speed automatic transaxle.

There's too much different between both drivetrains to swap a CVT for a conventional transaxle.

Not to mention that all 5-speed automatic transaxles (e.g. the V6's 5HP19FLA and the V8's 5HP24A) incorporate a Torsen center differential. Because of how a Torsen center diff operates, it requires at least some resistance on both of its outputs (front and rear in this case) or else it will just send 100% of available torque to freely spin the output which has no resistance at all (the rear in this case) and the car will not move under power even a centimeter.

That leaves either replacing the Torsen center diff with a spool or welding the Torsen center diff's worm gears solid so that the diff then acts as a spool. Only then would the transaxle be able to drive just the front wheels successfully with no rear diff/rear prop shaft.
