what's considered normal "markup/commission" for a dealership on an A6. Is 3.5% competative on either a 02 or 03 Audi. That'a roughly $1500 commision. Is this norm, a really good deal or I can do better than 3.5 percent ontop of dealer cost.

Thanks...me and a friend and getting an A6 (that's means he will would have sold 2 cars) ...and the dealer gave us pricing of $2500 over invoice. Considering I happen to know someone who is the wife of the "coowner" of the dealership, I mentioned his name, etc and the best they could do is 3.5% above dealer cost which I still find too high.
So I'm figuring anywhere from $500 to $800 is good for a '02 car and if I go with the '03, 1K would be max. Would this numbers be resonable.

Remember, Audi's have NO holdback so the dealer needs to make that profit. I think $500 - $1000 on a $40,000++++ car is more than fair.

this is a different spin on this topic, but is there any discounts off dealer invoice I should be expecting this time of the year for a 2002 model.
The way I look at it, I can either pay $500 to $1000 over dealer invoice for a '03 but if I go with a '02, shouldn't they be cheaper. It's going to depreciate once the '03 is out anyways, which is not too far away......

... and then gave them my $1000 off coupon for a deal at invoice. The change in models means that they know they have to move them, but they try not to offer low prices.... So, you have to make an offer. It has to be genuine, as in "this is all I will offer... else I wait for a 2003." Worked. They found me the exact car within 24 hours.

I did use Fighting Chance's "fax attack" approach, and sent faxes to the sales managers of the 13 Audi dealers closest to me. In the fax, I listed the invoice price for the car and all the options I wanted, and said that I would be going with the dealer giving me the best price. I got about a 50% reponse rate, with prices ranging from $500 over invoice (didn't go with that guy because he triggered my "slimey car salesman" detector), all the way to a couple grand over *list* (I haven't a clue as to what that guy was thinking).
All in all, the process was very straightforward -- no haggling, no hassle. Spent about a half-hour working up the order for the car, and then about an hour picking it up about 12 weeks later...
