A6 gear shift gets STUCK

A6 gear shift gets STUCK
My 97 A6 gets stuck in park and will not shift. You must start and restart the car several times waiting 2-3 minutes inbetween until the gear unshifts. The key also gets stuck sometimes and won't come out . Does anyone have any advice before I bring it into Rusnack (my dealer) for which I am afraid will be an expensive fix?

Both problems caused by sensors/magnets or whatever not lining up properly . . .
. . . all being part of the interlocking stuff to prevent accidental engagement of gears, etc. I had the problem when car was rather new, went away on its own. If it needs fixed, should not be difficult or expensive.
