Default A6 LED taillights

<center><img src="http://www.hella.com/auto/kompeten/signal/signal15.jpg"></center><p>Anyone seen these Hella A6 rear lights? Looks like they use LEDs. Maybe it's just a prototype.

Default I WANT I WANT I WANT!!!!

No joking, I have yearned for LED tail lights for at least ten years! I had visions of subtly animating them, too...

If these make it to market, it'll be the first thing I buy!!! You can tell me 'yuk' a thousand times and I'll still buy 'em! :-)<p><table BORDER CELLPADDING=4 WIDTH="180"><tr><td ALIGN=CENTER><img width=88 height=56 src="http://www.cameo.net/a.gif"

Default Check out this German hella URL. It shows the crystal and black taillights.

Those LED you posted are awesome, This site shows the LED lights for the new BMW 5 series, but evidently they have them now for the A6. If you scroll down you will see the A6 in black. I was going to get the crystal colored for my silver 4.2, but that LED pic changed my mind. Where did you find it?<ul><li><a href="http://www.hella.de/shop/colour/indexe.htm">http://www.hella.de/shop/colour/indexe.htm</a</li></ul>

Default ME, TOO! ME TOO!!!!

LED's are great. I've been buying them on my buses for a couple years. Much lower power consumption, faster response, don't burn out. It sounds silly, but they light up a fraction of a second faster and that can translate into enough distance to avert a crash. I don't understand why the auto industry is taking so long to get on the bandwagon.

Default just yesterday I was thinking of doing this myself

To the spare taillights I now have. I'm not sure I like the look of the Hella ones. But I'm definitely interest in LED taillights.

Default They're not all they're cracked up to be...look at Caddy STS

spoiler or deck-mounted CHMBL or any number of rice rocket LED CHMBLs....by the time the car is a couple of years old it seems the LEDs are either out or dim or some other problem.

Sure they light up sooner; they're also more expensive than std single bulb (or double filament) and although they don't burn out as fast as incandescent, they're more expensive to replace and guess what...I haven't even SEEN any replacement LEDs on the market in the aftermarket auto parts stores. Can you imagine what Audi is going to sell these assemblies for at the dealer!!

Notwithstanding all of the above, I'm in favor of putting them on cars...just make them subject to the warranty since they would no longer be 'consumable' items.

Wait, how about HID stoplights and turn signals too!<p>John.Binford@DTRA.MIL
