A6: noise from front right wheel

I have noticed a grinding noise from the front right wheel that is there off and on. At times, it is very audible and scary. Any thoughts? It is not there always...

More prominent when turning one direction rather than the other? . . .

. . . that was the symptom in my case. The wheel bearing was going out. Replaced under warranty.

Had the same problem, in the right wheel, it was bearing. Had to bring back the car three times. Had to have the service manager ride with me to convince him that that was the noise i was hearing, they then replaced it.
