I found my A8 had much more room than my previous A6 4.2. I guess if you sit very upright and close to the steering wheel it may be close. But the same should be true with the A6. Was the seat raised all the way?

Yeah, strange - good buddy wanted an A6 but had to go with an A8 BECAUSE the headroom. Bizarre!

I don't think so. I used to drive a '97 S-class Mercedes and it was just too ungainly. Getting into parking spots, etc. was a real chore. THen the doors would get dinged by relatively innocent people just trying to get out of their cars. My '03 A6 4.2 has almost as much room inside and it's just so much more suited to everyday life.

Sure....if it was a D3 SWB A8. In fact, next to a CPO RS6, it's at the top on my "next" list.

I did not feel that I stepped down as the care was actually a better deal, with similar room and better performance.

Unless the A8 was substantially better I would not consider it for me. I don't need a stetched version but would consider an S8 if it was available.
