A6 Suspension Opinions...

I post over in the CGT/4000 forum but I have a question for you A6 guys. My parents 2000 A6(non-sports suspension) has 100,000 miles on it and my dad wants to upgrade the suspension. His 2000 A8 daily driver has sorta spoiled him and when he drives the A6 he hates the float at highway speeds. He thinks that because of the high milage the the shocks are worn. I always remember the car having that float even when it was new, and I'm trying to tell him that he probably needs to replace the springs with stiffer ones. He was planning on just replacing the shocks with billsteins HDs. Now do you think that replaceing the shocks and leaving the springs stock will get rid of the float? The problem with aftermarket springs is that he doesn't want to lower the car because the front already scrapes on his driveway. Any responses welcome. Thanks.

You should do a search of the site for most of your information. It's been asked and answered and debated many times.

but an excellent improvement and lowered with the progressive B&G coils. I would think that by simply upgrading the shocks may give the best possible result. The wear from the 100,000 mile spring is a variable. Why not add new OEM springs since your ripping the darn thing apart anyway!?

New shocks will reduce the floating. Springs won't.
At 100k, the shocks are almost past their life twice over. They're way beyond being any good now.
KONI's or Bilsteins will improve the ride dramatically without the need to lower the car.

You don't say how the 2000 A6 is configured, so check out the Eibach site at www.eibach.com. This set up does lower the car, but it hasn't been a big problem.
Good luck, lots of choices out there...<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/498643.phtml">Eibach Installation Post</a></li></ul>
