Default A6 tire wear

I have a 2000 A6 4.2 which is eating left front tires like crazy. The tires wear on the inside edge to the point of threads. It is like something extra is rubbing on the tire but I have had it checked by several shops and nothing can be found. This happens on the factory 17" rims, but doesn't seem to happen with my winter wheel/tire setup (16"). Does this need an alignment? bearings?
Help!
Thanks!

That type of wear is usually toe. Possible tie rod.

If it happens only on the summer tires, I'd say something is coming into contact with the tire.

Default or a TON of negative camber, but.....

... why has it come up clean in multiple checks? Maybe you need to chekc the checker?

Maybe it is contacting some suspension component, but, if so, why not the right as well?

Somebody is missing something. I gues THAT's obvious ....

Default I have the same problem on both fronts. Only on the 17's, and yes, the car was aligned with the 17's

very odd, never happens on the stock wheels, only on my 17's
