Default A6 trans rebuild suggestions

Hello I am new to these cars but found a local A6 with the 2.7L turbo engine with 116K miles with a slipping trans for 2600. How much is the avg to rebuild these trans?

Step one is to diagnose the issue.
Low fluid?
Electrical issue?

In the event that the trans needs to be rebuilt, use only a ZF certified shop. Expect to pay at least $3k.

Last month a friend of mine had the tiptronic transmission replaced in an Allroad 2.7. It was ZF certified and the work was done at an Audi dealer. The bill came to approximately $6,000. This probably sets the high end of the range for you.

I'm assuming the $6k included the removal and reinstall, not just the rebuild?

Sounds about right for a tranny pull, rebuild and replace for that car---at a dealer.

Expect to pay at around $3000 for just the rebuild using a ZF certified shop. You might be able to save $1000 to $1300 by using an independent to remove and replace the tranny. (Total bill $4700 to $6000.)

How do I search for a ZF shop? I am in Chicago and can't find any recommended shops so I might pass on it. There are running ones for 4.7-6K but I heard the trans is a weak spot so wanted to start with a fresh one if possible.

Huh... You have one of the most respected ZF rebuilders IN Chicago! Search this and the D2 forum for member TOZOM8. He is one of the best!

A google search for ZF rebuild Vernon hills should get you there.

They normally deal through retail sources but occasionally make exceptions.
